When you take your pet to their veterinarian, you naturally want to know about the person who will be taking care of your four-legged friend. And, while you may be most familiar with your veterinarian, like Dr. Pettyjohn, knowing the rest of your pet’s veterinary care team can set your mind at ease. An integral part of a strong veterinary team are veterinary technicians—incredible team members who are the backbone of a veterinary practice, handling everything from monitoring anesthesia and performing diagnostic tests, to providing dedicated nursing care, and coaching pet owners through injecting insulin, trimming nails, or giving medications. Follow along as we peek into the life of Aubrey, one of our stellar licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs).

Chasing her dreams to land at Stone Ridge

Originally from deep south Houston, Texas, Aubrey, our stellar licensed veterinary technician here at Stone Ridge Veterinary Medical Center of Willis, has known from a young age, before she could speak in full sentences, that she was destined to work with animals. Finding the courage to chase her dreams took a long time, however, but we’re happy she did.

Originally, Aubrey attended nursing college. After graduating in 2012, she became a nursing assistant and worked at a neurorecovery center for four years. Then, she decided to pursue her passion of working with animals, and went back to school to obtain her associate of applied science degree in veterinary medicine. Recently, she passed the Texas State Board Examination to become a licensed veterinary technician. She has applied her background in human neurology to veterinary neurology, but she also loves working with exotic pets.

After graduating with her technician credentials, Aubrey was looking for a veterinary technician job in her area. She discovered that Stone Ridge of Willis partnered with animal rescues to help heal homeless pets, and because she has a soft spot for animal rescues, Aubrey knew that such a tender-hearted practice as Stone Ridge of Willis was the perfect place for her. Her drive to provide owners with the knowledge to make the best decisions for their pets makes her a truly wonderful technician, who always advocates for her patients’ health, happiness, and wellbeing.

Filling her home life with pets, family, and singing

At home, Aubrey is surrounded by her four-legged pack. She admits that “things just happen,” and she ended up with three dogs and three cats. Aubrey also has an 11-year-old daughter, who is her motivation behind everything she does. One talent you may not expect from Aubrey, and which is generally not known, is her singing ability. She likes to sing in the shower or when messing around, and she sings extremely well.

Diving deep into her favorite things

When asked what about her might surprise others, Aubrey replied that she loves to bake, which her Stone Ridge family appreciates. Her favorite food consists of anything with potatoes, and she will always choose Dr. Pepper over Coke or Pepsi as the perfect icy cold complement to her potato-rich meal.

In her spare time, Aubrey enjoys playing video games. When she heads outdoors, she would opt for the mountains over the ocean, although she likes both types of scenery. If she had to choose, Aubrey would take a camping weekend over a spa weekend, as long as it’s warm out. She is not a fan of the cold, so she picked a good state to live in.

Looking ahead to the future

As Aubrey plots out her future, she hopes to be at a comfortable place in her life in the next five years. At work, she would like to further her career, and has a goal of becoming a veterinary technician specialist (VTS) in one of the specialty areas.

When you visit Stone Ridge Veterinary Medical Center of Willis, you’re likely to meet Aubrey, who will explain to you how to administer medications, discuss any health concerns you may have about your pet, or advise you on how to help your pet live a happy, healthy life. Give us a call to schedule your pet’s appointment, and if you’re lucky, Aubrey may be willing to share some delicious treats she baked for the team.
