At Stone Ridge Veterinary Medical Center of Willis, our veterinary assistants are essential members of the team. We love to brag about our amazing staff, and today we’re highlighting Shardria “Dria” Jacqueline Johnson. As a veterinary assistant, Dria does whatever it takes to ensure the wellbeing of our patients. From providing support for our veterinarians during routine exams to maintaining laboratory equipment, Dria does it all, and we’re proud to have her on our team. A lifelong love of animals

Dria grew up in Houston, Texas, and has loved animals for as long as she can remember. By elementary school, she already had decided she was going to grow up to help animals one day, and—unlike most childhood career ambitions—her desire never changed. During her senior year in high school, Dria job-shadowed at Stone Ridge Veterinary Medical Center of Willis, and that experience affirmed for her that this was what she was meant to do. 

From childhood dream to reality

Her passion and drive led her to stay on at Stone Ridge, where she is living out her childhood dream. Dria enjoys many aspects of her job, but nothing means more to her than spending time with animals. She loves the variety of pets she gets to interact with, and she learns something new about them every day.  

Family is everything

For Dria, family is the most important thing in her life, and that includes her furry family members—a pit bull mix named Zeus and a rottweiler named Ace. Dria’s family is always there for her and supports her in everything she does. She says they are her motivation for doing what she does to make a difference every day.

Answer: It depends on my mood, but I love Italian.

A: Painting

Q: Would you rather spend time in the mountains or the ocean?

A:  The ocean 100%. I have always loved the ocean. 

Q: Do you prefer Coke or Pepsi products? 

A: Neither, because I’m a root beer lover.

Q: Would you prefer a spa weekend or a camping weekend?

A: Spa weekend

Q: What’s one thing you would like to accomplish in the next five years?

A: I’ve never been snowboarding, and I want to learn how. 

An important part of the Stone Ridge team

During your next visit, you’re likely to see Dria in every corner of our hospital. As a veterinary assistant, she wears a lot of hats, and works hands-on with patients all day long. You may see her assisting our front desk staff when you check in. During your pet’s visit, she may gently hold your pet so the veterinarian can perform a head-to tail exam. In the back of our hospital, she can be found taking dogs out for potty breaks, cleaning cages, and ensuring all hospitalized patients have food and water, and are comfortable. Dris is an integral part of our compassionate team, and we could not provide the same stellar care for our patients without her.
